The previous version of the Port of Kennewick website was starting to become cumbersome for the Port to maintain; it required the Port’s administrative team to know how to update the HTML code and make changes themselves, which was a tough task for an organization with so much going on already.
Artmil was selected as the vendor of choice after a proposal process, and we gladly set to work creating something new and fresh for the citizens of the Tri-Cities to use. This new site is simple, clean, organized, and offers some much-needed functionality that will make things easier for the Port and the public.
“Artmil created a website which does an outstanding job of sharing a significant amount of information in an inviting, accessible and transparent manner. Their team was a pleasure to work with; they took time to understand our organization, and how our staff and the public needed and wanted to use the website. Indeed, they demonstrated significant technical expertise; yet communicated with us clearly and conversationally. They were creative, responsive, and actively sought budget-friendly solutions which could be easily implemented and readily maintained.”

Deputy CEO, Port of Kennewick
One of the toughest challenges with being a public-facing and -serving organization is keeping the public informed with the latest information. The previous Port website had lots of information, but it could be a bit difficult to wade through everything and find the information you were looking for.
We helped solve this problem by creating categories that relate to the Port’s various projects areas (such as Vista Field, Columbia Gardens, Clover Island, and more) and then assigning news items to those categories at the time of publication (which is as simple as ticking a checkbox on the back end of the site).
Categorizing news and events in this way not only makes it easier for the public to find information that is specific to what they’re looking for, but it also makes it possible for us to pull those news items into various spots in the site where they’d be most relevant. (For example, we can pull news items about Vista Field into a sidebar and place it on the Vista Field main project page.)
We also added a repository for the Port’s quarterly newsletters, presenting them as interactive flip books that the public can digitally “thumb through” on both desktop and mobile devices.
This simplification of how the Port unveils and shares their news and press releases with the public will help keep the everyone more informed about the ways in which the Port of Kennewick is building and enriching our community.

Among all of the Port of Kennewick’s projects throughout the Tri-Cities, they’ve got a pretty big one right in their backyard — the Clover Island marina. High on the priority list for this site was an easier way to display the available marina slots, as well as all of the marina amenities located throughout Clover Island.
This map can be easily updated — on the Port’s end — allowing a smoother and more visually appealing way for the Port’s marina team to keep all current and prospective tenants updated.
